The Township of Bernards is made up of three communities, known as Basking Ridge, Liberty Corner and Lyons, with a combined total population of just about 28,000 people. The township is on almost 25 square miles of land that was, like many of the towns in this part of Central New Jersey known as the Somerset Hills, purchased from the Lenape Indians. It was chartered in 1760, and has a rich history. Some historic sites include the old Oak Tree, which is estimated at over 600 years old, in the cemetery of the Presbyterian Church, and the Van Dorn Mill, which was built as a wooden structure in 1768, and rebuilt in 1843 as “the finest stone structure in New Jersey.”
With easy access to Routes 287 & 78, travel in any direction is easy, and commuting is convenient as well, with two NJ Transit train stations in the Township.
