Martinsville is the northeastern section of Bridgewater, bordering Bernards & Warren Townships. Though part of Bridgewater, and sharing all the same schools & government services, it has a unique identity. (You might also want see information for all of Bridgewater.) The area was settled before the revolutionary war, and the nearby Middlebrook Encampment was an important strategic location for General George Washington. Tucked in along the third ridge of the Watchung Mountains, Martinsville is a quiet residential community. People’s opinions may differ as to the exact borders of Martinsville. I use the US post office definition, including all homes in the 08836 zip code. Within that area, there are approximately 1,400 homes. Most of these are single family houses on lots over half an acre. Loft Farm offers two and three bedroom townhouses, in the center of town.
The rural feel of this community is enhanced by the presence of several parks, including Chimney Rock Park, with its playground, baseball fields, tennis courts, and roller hockey rink, as well as Washington Valley Reservoir Park, which features paths perfect for hiking & biking. Martinsville is very convenient to many amenities, including a huge variety of shopping, restaurants, & recreation. New York City and all that it offers is within easy driving distance, as is Philadelphia.
